Septemberfest was founded in 2001 by Seeli Toivio, who is also the Artistic Director. The programme includes music from many eras by various instruments and chamber groups. In 2012 the festival theme and name was Bach and Others. Programme included a lot of music by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685–1750), and also new music. In 2013 there will be 3 concerts, each concentrating on a specific theme: Cavalcade, New Music, and Finnish Music.

In 2014 there will be 4 concerts, one of them in the Music Center Camerata Hall in Helsinki.
