Katajanokka Rotary Club (Helsinki) event to protect the Baltic Sea in collaboration with WWF Finland. The 2013 festival was a success again. 2 concerts gave the enthusiastic audiences fine performances of selected chamber music pieces and glittering orchestral works with fantastic soloists. The main performer in 2013, the Se ensemble, performed in both concerts. In the Chamber Music Concert Operation Mermaid on April 8th, Se ensemble’s chamber groups played music by Debussy, Faith, Beethoven, Mozart, Takemitsu, and Busch.
In the Gala Concert Save The Baltic Sea (April 16) the Temple Rock Church in Helsinki was filled with the grand orchestral sounds of the Bloch Poems of the Sea, Shostakovich Cello Concerto Nr. 1, Gunaropulos Saxophone Concerto (1942), Britten Four Sea Interludes from “Peter Grimes”, and Sibelius Oceanides. Soloists were saxophonist Olli-Pekka Tuomisalo, and cellists Seeli Toivio & Helena Paavola.
On April 9, The Baltic Sea Seminar The Oily Risk of the Baltic Sea featured very interesting presentations by Ms. Vanessa Ryan from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Finland, Mr. Erik Båsk from the John Nurminen Foundation, and Mr. Jorma Rytkönen from the Finland’s Environmental Center.
The 2014 Festival is allready under construction, and the full programme shall be published in the Autumn 2013.
